Assistant Stage Manager (ASM) | “Every Day Vanilla”

Description

The Assistant Stage Manager assists the Stage Manager in completing a variety of responsibilities, including 1) handling administrative duties related to the production, 2) assisting the Director during rehearsals, and 3) running the tech booth (light and sound) during performances. Our ideal candidate is a punctual, professional, organized, and flexible individual with a passion for theater and community. If this sounds like you, we’d love to hear from you!

Requirements

  • Ability to attend production meetings (dates TBD—we’ll work with your schedule). These can be remote or in person.
  • Must be available to attend rehearsals on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Fridays from 7:00 – 10:00 PM starting November (Thanksgiving week excluded). There will also be two Sunday rehearsals on November 12 and November 19 from 11:00 AM – 2:00 PM.
  • Must be available for all 10 performance dates at MOXIE Theatre (This production is presented separately from MOXIE Theatre's programming):

    • Sunday, December 17 | 2:00 PM (Matinee)
    • Monday, December 18 | 7:00 PM (Industry Night)

  • Familiarity with the Filipinx/a/a, BIPOC, and queer communities or a willingness to learn more
  • Must have reliable transportation to all scheduled meetings, rehearsals, and performances
  • Backstage theater experience preferred (e.g., calling cues, assisting backstage, tech booth support)
  • QLab system experience is preferred but not required; training will be provided for those who are unfamiliar

About the play

The year is 2006. Seventeen-year-old Filipina American writer Frankie Robles dreams of escaping San Diego for somewhere less “vanilla." Over the course of 10 years, she begins to reexamine her relationship with her hometown through the eyes of her family, friends, and lovers.
